Our late founder Greg Trott, saw the game of cricket as the most noble of pursuits. As a youth, he even built his own concrete pitch at the family farm to emulate his heroes. Trott envisaged wearing the famous baggy green cap of the Australian team - if only to carry the drinks as 12th Man. And if the drinks tray sported our Adelaide Hills Chardonnay, Trott would have been warmly welcomed at any cricket fixture.

Colour

A bright and pale green/gold.

Bouquet

White nectarine and peach sit alongside racier grapefruit, lemon rind and briney notes. Shortbread, roasted nuts and charred oak add another layer.

Palate

Stone fruit is followed by bright lemon juice and flinty notes, while cedary oak and hints of nutmeg complement the fruit characters. Natural ferment, oak and lees aging have combined to produce an elegant and creamy texture.

Professional Reviews

An impressive wine, full and complete, with lovely complexity. Nutty oak and a rich palate with good flavour depth. Sweet-lemon, white peach, oatmeal and cashew.

Toni Paterson, The Real Review 93

The nose on this wild ferment baby is captivating. There’s plenty of fruit there (white nectarine and lemon zest) and layers of nutty biscuit aromas. Fresh-baked stone fruit tart flavours to follow. The grapes were hand-picked and whole bunch pressed and fermented in French oak. This wine is a nod of the green cap to Wirra Wirra founder the late Greg Trott’s love of cricket, and the clean acid line cuts through the mix like a ball smashed for six.

Katie Spain, The Advertiser 4.5

It is great to see this cheeky chardy lining up alongside some of the biggest wine names in the business. Wild-fermented and then treated to lightly toasted French oak, this is a secret weapon wine for those people who would like to drink a lighter style without too much pressure on them to go into raptures about what is in their glass. The vibrancy and freshness here make this an expressive wine and one which is well suited to a hot summer’s day leaving the more structured wines for cooler occasions!

Matthew Jukes, 100 Best Australian Wines 2019/20

Light, youthful colour, with a very smoky, oak and sulfide-dominated bouquet. There is richness and intensity here, with a very dry palate and finish, the wine medium to full-bodied and pleasingly long. A very tasty chardonnay with a lot of smoky artifact characters.

Huon Hooke, The Real Review 93
