Greg Trott, founder of Wirra Wirra, was a ‘wanderer’. A simple run to the local shops might evolve into an interstate luncheon, phone seemingly absent from the journey. He would return a day or so later, bemused by the fuss. Although one ‘unplanned’ visit to the UK was a stretch, even by his standards. Over time we accepted that Trotty was in training to become the Olympic hiding champion and it became part of the life at Wirra Wirra.

Colour

Pristine, pale straw with flashes of quartz green.

Bouquet

Pungent aromatics of fresh passionfruit, grapefruit, gooseberry and freshly squeezed lime.

Palate

A burst of lime juice is followed by pristine passionfruit, grapefruit and lemongrass herbals. The palate is long, fine and zesty. Pure fruits supported by a refreshing, mouth-watering acidity.

Professional Reviews

This is a very vibrant and expressive white wine. Top notes of gooseberry and passionfruit. The palate has bright acidity and is faintly spicy. Fresh lemon juice flavour.

Toni Patterson The Real Review

Attractive flavour of gooseberry and lime, a sweet and sour sort of tonic water tang, spice and a clutch of green stuff, and a powdery finish of good length. All just so. Easy to enjoy.

A wine originally, and unapologetically, created from Adelaide Hills fruit to take on the Kiwis. Its name derives from late flamboyant owner Greg Trott’s propensity to ‘disappear’ at critical times. Current custodian Paul Smith’s lively flavoured and beautifully scented effort is top grade.

John Fordham Sunday Telegraph

Reflects the cool, late vintage that came as a relief after '16's fast and furious antics. Hand-picked from the Yandra Vineyard, it has intensity, focus and length, uncommon qualities for sauvignon blanc, as are the mineral and citrus heartstrings of the palate. It's lipsmackingly good.

James Halliday James Halliday Magazine 95

Intense passion fruit and grassy citrus-infused aromas. This has a very fresh juicy and tangy palate with great concentration. Drink now.
