Our Vineyards
McLaren Vale is at the heart of everything Wirra Wirra and thus McLaren Vale is where the greater majority of fruit is sourced for crafting Wirra Wirra's most recognised and awarded wines.
Wirra Wirra's commitment to producing premium wines that are stylistically diverse but retain their regional integrity and varietal intensity has lead to the sourcing of premium white grapes (Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Riesling) from the neighbouring Adelaide Hills, a cooler climate grape growing region well recognised for quality white wine styles.
Of Wirra Wirra's owned vineyards, Scrubby Rise (ironically flat and bereft of Scrub), Nocowie (named by Trott's father who disliked cows), Chook Block (next to Trotty's old Chicken Sheds), 73 Block (one guess only), Woodhenge, Finniss River & House Block contribute the majority of our best fruit year after year.
In addition to the above mentioned vineyards, Rayner Vineyard, previously of Brokenwood Winery fame, was acquired by Wirra Wirra in late 2007. The Rayner Vineyard represents almost 20 hectares of prime McLaren Vale land and comprises blocks dating back to 1950. This new addition will assist the winery in meeting increased demand for top-end wines, and further cements a commitment to producing premium McLaren Vale reds.
